Last Friday September 15, Erik Karcher and Isabel Garsuta have been crowned Mr. and Miss UB Personality 2017. In a full-packed quadrangle, the guy representing the Nursing department and the girl representing Victoriano D. Tirol ALC were chosen among the 15 contestants as the new Mr and Miss.

The main award is a scholarship in the school at the University of Bohol, making this pageant one of the most prestigious competition in the island.

Brief history about the pageant

Originating in 1946, the event started as a benevolent fund-raising contest called “UB Queen”, driven by the popularity of the entrants. In 1973, it grew into a personality contest which took into consideration beauty, intelligence and talent. In 1985, the contest further evolved to include male candidates. This contest, now called “Search for Mr. & Miss UB Personality”, foster friendly inter-departmental competition as one young man from each college are judged on the competitors’ talent performance, interview, personality test results and good moral character in addition to their physical appearance. This is the oldest surviving campus pageant in the province of Bohol.

Purpose

The search for Mr. and Miss UB Personality is a pageant that is held annually as a highlight of the University of Bohol Days. It is run jointly by the University of Bohol administration and University of Bohol Supreme Student Government. The purpose of the contest is to provide young men and women with a vehicle to further their personal and professional goals, an opportunity to influence and inspire fellow youth, and instill a spirit of community service through a variety of unique community-based programs. The winners will be the University of Bohol’s Ambassadors of goodwill and official representatives to inter-school activities for the duration of their reign.
